Haiti Relief Efforts

Our college president, Dr. Alex Johnson, is organizing a college-wide effort to obtain funds from our clubs/organizations to give to the American Red Cross. The funds must be fund-raised monies. Gaina has advised that we currently have about $464 in our budget to give to this effort. We will vote at our next meeting on this. I personally don’t know of any other current causes that are in more urgent need of this money. We are also looking into other ways we can donate to the American Red Cross, such as food and water. This will be discussed further at our next meeting as well.

Also - Shadow Lounge in East Liberty is hosting "Sending Back The Spirit: A Benefit For Haiti" on Thursday, January 21st. Doors open @ 7 pm. Many musical performances are to play, of genres including jazz, soul, and hip-hop. All proceeds will go to Wyclef Jean’s fund for Haiti.

I am for sure attending this event. Let me know if you wanna join me.

We are teaming up with University of Pittsburgh on their Dr. King Day of Service - A Day On, Not A Day Off event. This is hosted by the Black Action Society & NSBE University of Pittsburgh Chapter. The activities run from 10:15 am - 3:30 pm - however, we must be at the event by 8:20 am. This said, our group must meet first at our CCAC campus by 7:30 am. NO EXCEPTIONS! I know it is early, but think of the importance of this day and what it means!!! I’m sure we will have a really good time. For more info, check out the site:

I have already received a ticket for our chapter to go as a group. I know it is last minute, but please give me a call if you are interested in volunteering for what will be a most inspiring event!

VP of Service Position Open

As many of you are aware, our former VP of Service, Kathy Rae, has resigned her position as her life is taking her on a new path. Consequently, we are in need of a solid, dedicated VP of Service who is able to lead our chapter by way of engaging in community service projects, especially related to environmental concerns. This candidate must be dedicated to helping others, responsible to our chapter, able to attend our meetings, and speak at our upcoming spring induction (Sun.2/7/10 @ 2 pm). As a PTK leader, many opportunities will come your way and you will find great satisfaction with serving this humanitarian role. If you feel this is a role for you, please have something prepared by our next meeting as to why we should choose you! What makes you the best and most qualified candidate? We need to fill in this important position asap, so we will vote on the candidate during our next meeting, after we have heard the all candidates speak.

Good Luck!
